ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Germany have officially concluded the dual citizenship negotiation that will permit Pakistanis in Germany to possess both nations’ citizenship.

The Embassy of Pakistan in Berlin announced that the entire process that needed to be done to finalize the dual citizenship agreement has now been accomplished.

Thus, Germany is now included in the list of countries where Pakistan has a dual citizenship policy. It is reported by the embassy that the German nationality applicants of Pakistani descent residing in Germany will not be asked to give up their Pakistani citizenship anymore.

This is a big change for the Pakistani community in Germany, where, before, people had to do away with their Pakistani nationality to become German citizens.

The notice also included that further information on the process of reclaiming Pakistani nationality would be given separately. This is for the Pakistan-origin German citizens who had given up their Pakistani citizenship earlier.

The announcement was made by the Embassy of Pakistan in Berlin as an official public notification to keep the Pakistani nationals and the broader community informed about the matter.

Pakistan has a dual citizenship policy with a number of countries based on certain legal conditions. The addition of Germany to this list signifies the expansion of these arrangements, and consequently, a large population of Pakistanis living there is impacted.
