GILGIT BALTISTAN: Today marks the 78th Liberation Day of Gilgit-Baltistan, a significant milestone in the region’s history. The day commemorates the region’s independence from Dogra Raj in 1947, achieved through a military coup led by the Gilgit Scouts under Major William Brown.

To fully participate in this momentous occasion, the Gilgit-Baltistan government has declared a public holiday today to allow citizens to participate in these celebrations and honor their region’s rich history.

In addition, several flag-hoisting ceremonies were held across all districts, including Gilgit and Skardu. Whereas, the main ceremony took place at Chinar Bagh Gilgit, where Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Gul Bar Khan proudly hoisted the national flag.

Additionally, a vibrant ceremony, organized by the Pakistan Army, is underway in Gilgit to honor the day. This event pays tribute to the martyrs and ghazis who fought for Gilgit-Baltistan’s liberation and showcases the region’s rich culture and civilization.

Gilgit-Baltistan’s history is deeply intertwined with Pakistan’s. After gaining independence, the region’s leaders, including Raja Shah Rais Khan and Captain Mirza Hassan Khan, declared their accession to Pakistan, strengthening ties between the two. This bond is still celebrated today.
