ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided not to increase the average basic electricity tariff.

After a briefing presented by the Power Division during the hearing held at NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority), it was decided not to increase the average basic tariff.

The Additional Secretary Power Division said that appropriate adjustments have been made in the subsidy to avoid an increase in electricity tariffs. Due to this, there is no need to increase the tariff now.

According to Power Division officials, there has been a significant improvement in the energy mix since July. Which reduced the cost of production and made it possible to provide relief to consumers.

Officials clarified that the government has taken the final decision not to change the tariff, considering all the circumstances.

At present, a total of Rs 629 billion in subsidies are being given to electricity consumers of all categories across the country so that electricity is available to the public at affordable rates.
