Govt announces four-day holiday for Eidul Fitr 2024

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has officially declared a four-day Eid-ul-Fitr holiday from April 10 to April 13.

According to the details, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved the holidays, which will allow citizens to celebrate the festival with their families and loved ones.

The announcement comes at a time when hopes are rising for the sighting of the Shawwal moon, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. If the moon is visible on April 9, then Eid-ul-Fitr will be on April 10. Otherwise, it will be celebrated on April 11.

Official notification for Eid 2024 holidays

The cabinet division has formally issued a notification regarding public holidays on the account of Eidul Fitr 2024.

“In continuation of Cabinet Division’s circular regarding Public and Optional holidays for the year 2024, it is for general information that thy Prime Minister has been pleased to approve public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, as follows,” reads the notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

 

Earlier this week, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a forecast stating that the Shawwal moon is likely to be sighted across the country on Tuesday, April 9. According to the PMD forecast, the moon of Shawwal is expected to rise on the night of April 8 at 11:21 PM local time.

On April 9, the moon is estimated to be between 19 and 20 hours old, with an expected duration of more than 50 minutes after sunset on the horizon. While clear skies are forecast at most places in the southern regions including Karachi on April 9, the northern regions may experience cloudy conditions during the moon sighting.
