Govt announces public holidays on 9th, 10th Muharram

ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the federal government has declared public holidays on July 5 and 6, i-e, on the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram.

According to the official notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the holidays of 9th and 10th Muharram, which will fall on a Saturday and Sunday, are usually non-working days in Pakistan-will further ease citizens in fulfilling the religious importance of the days with seriousness and respect.

All public and private institutions are likely to remain closed during this period. Ahusra, which is commemorated on 10th Muharram, is the day to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussein ibn Ali (RA) and his family members and companions martyred at the Battle of Karbala.

Holiday Notification

The Karachi Traffic Police on Thursday revealed a traffic strategy to accommodate commuters on Muharram-ul-Haram processions on the 8th, 9th, and 10th Muharram.

The central processions will begin at Nishtar Park and take pre-determined routes before being brought to a conclusion at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.

MA Jinnah Road will remain closed from Guru Mandir to Tower during the processions for security purposes.

As per the plan made public by the police, Nazimabad traffic going towards Nishtar Road via Lasbela can move from Garden, and Liaquatabad vehicles can turn right from Teen Hatti towards Lasbela and Martin Road.

Likewise, commuters going from Hassan Square towards Peoples Chowrangi can take the route below the Jail Chowrangi Flyover via Kashmir Road or go to Teen Hatti and Nishtar Road.
