ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved amendments to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) national identity card laws, introducing special provisions for individuals with disabilities and organ donors.

Among these new provisions, identification cards with the wheelchair logo will now be issued to people with disabilities and have lifetime validity.

This will enable them to have a more accessible approach to public services and facilities. Organ donors will also receive special ID cards confirming them as caterers, with lifetime validity and featuring logos for both wheelchair and donor.

The government also made it obligatory that persons with disabilities and organ donors would have to be registered with the respective federal or provincial authorities.

The amendment shall come into force upon publication of the notification in the official gazette.

Earlier, NADRA clarified the term “Featured as Resident of the AJK State” on CNICs by mentioning that the imprinting of the wording “Resident of AJK State” would appear in black on the Smart Computerized National Identity Card (CNICs) and in red on ordinary CNICs.

A proper State Subject Certificate (of Class 1, 2 or 3) issued by the Government of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir will be required of applicants to get this title imprinted on CNIC.

NADRA has also refused rumors pertaining to a change in the policy, asserting that over 50,000 CNICs with this phrase were made between December 2024 and January 2025.
