Govt employees set to receive up to 125% boost in house rent ceiling

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Housing and Works has sent a summary of the increase in the rent ceiling for federal government employees to the federal cabinet.

It has recommended increasing the rent ceiling for employees in six cities of the country by 125 percent. These cities include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta.

A 125 percent increase in the rental ceiling has been proposed for employees in grades 1 to 6, while a 100 percent increase has been proposed for employees in grades 7 to 10 and a 60 percent increase for employees in grades 11 to 22.

For employees in grades 1 to 2, the ministry has proposed increasing the rent ceiling from Rs 7,029 to Rs 15,815, while for employees in grades 3 to 6, it will be increased from Rs 10,980 to Rs 24,705.

It is proposed to increase the rent for Grades 7 to 10 from Rs 16,403 to Rs 32,806 and for Grades 11 to 13 from Rs 27,744 to Rs 35,590.

Similarly, for employees in Grades 14 to 16, the rent limit for Islamabad will increase from Rs 31,085 to Rs 49,736, for Grades 17 to 18 from Rs 41,147 to Rs 65,835, while for Grade 19 it will increase from Rs 54,705 to Rs 54,70524.

The ministry has proposed to increase it from Rs 68,700 to Rs 109,920 for Grade 20 employees, while the rental ceiling for Islamabad for Grade 21 employees will increase from Rs 82,261 to Rs 131,618.

For Grade 22 employees, the rental ceiling has been proposed to be increased from Rs 98,444 to Rs 157,510.
