Govt extends deployment of army in Gilgit Baltistan

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has taken an important decision to extend the deployment of the army in view of the law and order situation in Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to sources, the federal cabinet has approved the extension of the period of deployment of the Pakistan Army in Gilgit-Baltistan until June 14, 2026.

This decision was taken on the request of the Gilgit-Baltistan government. The federal government deployed the army under Article 245 of the Constitution.

According to sources, earlier the federal government had deployed the army in Gilgit-Baltistan in March this year. The federal government had deployed the army in 3 districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The army and civil armed forces were deployed in the districts of Gilgit, Skardu and Shigar. Approval was taken to deploy the required number of Pakistan Army and civil armed forces.
