SUKKUR: A local court in Sukkur has summoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on January 15 in the case pertaining to the Greek boat tragedy.

In this regard, the court has directed the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, to ensure the presence of the aforementioned officials before the court.

The plea was filed by a local lawyer in the Additional Sessions Judge (Court-II), stating that due to government negligence, unemployed Pakistanis resorted to illegal means to leave the country.

The petition alleges that government negligence is responsible for the loss of lives, citing that unemployed Pakistanis resort to leaving the country illegally due to lack of opportunities.

The plea demanded a case be registered at the Rohri police station against the aforementioned officials for failing to prevent the tragedy.

On the night between December 13 and 14, an unfortunate incident took place in which more than 80 Pakistanis drowned after boats carrying them capsized near Greece.

The boats, which departed from Libya’s Tobruk port also carried Bangladeshi, Egyptian and Sudanese nationals.
