ISLAMABAD: An immediate ban has been imposed on the establishment of new universities or sub-campuses across the country without permission.

HEC has taken an important decision regarding the establishment of new universities, writing a letter to the vice-chancellors and heads of universities, informing them that no sub-campuses or universities will be established without permission and scrutiny. According to the letter, the Higher Education Commission will not give NOC or accreditation or verify degrees, HSC has directed all universities to strictly implement the policy.

The reason for the decision of the Higher Education Commission is substandard education, lack of qualified teachers and facilities, weak infrastructure, concern has been expressed over the lack of PhD teachers and students in tehsil campuses. HEC has ordered an immediate stop to the recruitment of teachers and construction activities, HEC has also directed to stop the process of acquiring land for sub-campuses, the approval of campuses and programs may be suspended in case of violation.
