ISLAMABAD: There has been renewed interest in the possible Eid-ul-Adha holidays in May 2026 as the combination of moon sighting and weekend is likely to change the duration of the holidays.
According to initial estimates, citizens may get 4 to 5 consecutive days of holidays, but the final schedule will depend on the moon sighting of Dhul-Hijjah.
According to Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, a meeting will be held on May 17 to sight the moon. On this basis, two different possibilities are being considered regarding the Eid al-Adha holidays.
If the moon is sighted on May 17, then the Eid holidays are likely to be from May 27 to May 29, that is, between Wednesday and Friday. In this case, due to the inclusion of Saturday and Sunday, the duration of the holidays may increase to May 31, which may result in a total gap of five days.
On the other hand, if the month of Dhul-Hijjah completes 30 days, then Eid is likely to fall on May 28 and 29, that is, on Thursday and Friday. In this case, four days of holidays will be expected, including the weekend.
