ISLAMABAD: Internet service across Pakistan has been severely affected causing widespread inconvenience to users. The issue has persisted for several days affecting all internet service providers, here on Monday.

As per the details, social media platforms have been particularly affected, with users also facing difficulties in downloading audio messages.

While internet service providers have attributed the problem to social media issues, mobile companies deny any involvement.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has refrained from commenting on the matter.

Meanwhile, the government has initiated a process to regulate all social media platforms. The documents show that the rating-based regulatory framework will be implemented after approval from the federal cabinet.

These new regulations will require companies to store data within Pakistan. Additionally, license holders will be obliged to provide location and general information when required.

Officials have indicated that ongoing work on the firewall may also have contributed to the disruption to Internet service. Sources say that internet service problems may persist till August 30.
