NEW YORK:  Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar says that in the context of the current global situation, the ongoing injustices in Palestine and Kashmir, and the growing wave of Islamophobia are serious challenges to peace.

Addressing the OIC High-Level Meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Ishaq Dar said that this is an opportunity to reflect on the timeless teachings of the Seerat-e-Tayyaba, which are based on peace, justice, compassion, and tolerance.

This special meeting was held under the theme of ‘Promoting a Culture of Peace and Tolerance’ to mark the completion of 1500 years of the blessed birth of Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Ishaq Dar emphasized that the principles of the Prophet (peace be upon him) of ‘justice, consultation, tolerance and peaceful resolution of disputes’ are in line with the fundamental principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

The Foreign Minister described the Covenant of Medina, the Treaty of Hudaybiyah, and the Conquest of Mecca as shining examples of the Prophet’s (PBUH) life that promoted the principles of humanity, dialogue, forgiveness, and coexistence, and which are considered the foundation of today’s international law.

Ishaq Dar urged the OIC to intensify efforts to protect the fundamental rights of the Muslim world and eliminate internal differences.

Ishaq Dar said that the OIC and the United Nations should work together to promote a global environment where the principles of tolerance, dignity, equality and mutual respect prevail.

He reiterated his commitment that Pakistan will fully cooperate with OIC member states and the international community to achieve these goals.
