ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police arrested human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband, Abdul Hadi, in the federal capital on Monday, a police spokesperson confirmed.

Police confirmed that Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali have been arrested in a case registered at Aabpara Police Station for interfering in government operations during the England cricket team’s movement.

According to the police, a day earlier, Imaan Mazari and her spouse engaged in a scuffle with a traffic police officer to remove the road blockades placed for the VIP movement of the international team.

Former federal minister and Imaan Mazari’s mother, Shireen Mazari, termed the arrest as “state fascism”.

“On Friday at the road barrier, Islamabad police swung the steel barrier deliberately into her assaulting her as videos show & injuring her. Who will hold police accountable 4 terrorism? Mohsin Naqvi shameful coward,” she wrote on X.

The incident occurred at Islamabad’s Zero Point Interchange when the police blocked the road during the movement of the Pakistan and England teams from the hotel to Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

As per Islamabad police, Imaan’s husband abused policemen, pushed them, and threatened them with dire consequences. The couple had violated the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of state guests and warned of filing a case, police said.
