ISLAMABAD: In a significant move, the Islamabad police have received a major uplift by promoting 240 officers to higher ranks, aimed at boosting morale across the force.

This large-scale advancement was approved by the Departmental Promotion Boards, chaired by Deputy Inspector General Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanweer, and is expected to have a positive impact on the force’s overall morale, as stated by Inspector General Islamabad, Ali Nasir Rizvi.

The promotions include two Inspectors advancing to the next rank, 20 Sub-Inspectors being promoted to higher positions, 55 Assistant Sub-Inspectors moving up the ranks, 65 Head Constables receiving promotions, and 98 Constables being promoted to Head Constable status, as recommended by Additional Inspector General Logistics, Shoaib Masood.

In a similar move, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced one-step promotions for government employees who were arrested and recently released after protests in Islamabad. These employees will also receive a week’s leave and a stipend of Rs 10,000.

The released officials include 34 police personnel, 7 TMAs, and 42 rescue workers who were arrested in various locations, including Attock, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad, and faced charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Additionally, 86 prisoners were released from District Jail Attock, comprising two PTI provincial assembly members, 46 Rescue 1122 staff, 25 police officers, and 13 municipal employees. Gandapur welcomed the employees back with flower garlands, showing his support.

Last month, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reported that 564 individuals were arrested during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protests, including 11 plainclothes K-P police personnel and 120 Afghan nationals.

This marked the first instance of police participation in such demonstrations in Pakistan.
