ISLAMABAD: Islamabad showed full support to Tehran’s call for an Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers over the killing of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in a strike in Tehran, the Foreign Office (FO) said.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release, Acting Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Bagheri Kani called his Pakistani counter-part Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar today and shared the Iranian nation’s and leadership’s deep anguish on the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar conveyed similar sentiments and Pakistan’s condemnation of the developments in Gaza and the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in the strongest possible terms, a heinous act also unanimously condemned by the National Assembly of Pakistan, the statement read.
Moreover, it stated that the Iranian Acting Foreign Minister also requested the Deputy Prime Minister to participate in the Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC being convened at the Foreign Ministers level. Deputy PM Dar fully supported this call and confirmed that Pakistan would actively participate in the important meeting.
On July 31, Hamas political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in an Israeli strike in Iran, where was present to attend the inauguration of the country’s newly elected president Masoud Pezeshkian.
“Brother, leader, mujahid Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the movement, died in a Zionist strike on his headquarters in Tehran after he participated in the inauguration of the new (Iranian) president,” the group said in a statement.
