LAHORE: A German tourist was robbed near the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore when he was camping on a road, police said on Saturday.

Berg Florian, 27, who is traveling through Pakistan on a bicycle, was attacked by two unidentified assailants when he was sleeping in his camp at around 1:30 AM in the northern Cantt area.

In a video shared on social media, Florian can be seen crying, prompting police authorities to launch a thorough investigation.

The tourist told the police he was attacked by two armed men who tortured him and demanded cash. Upon refusing, the suspects assaulted him and began searching through his belongings.

The robbers took his mobile phone costing $500, Rs5,000 in cash, a camera worth $2,000, AirPods valued at $2,000, and a power bank.  They fled away with a total of items worth Rs500,000.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at North Cantt under Section 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt, or restraint to the committing of the theft) of the PPC.

Superintendent of Police Cantt Owais Shafiq said the law enforcers have initiated the investigation and are currently checking the airport and adjacent areas to find the suspects. SP Shafiq said the police will find the men with the help of CCTV footage and other evidence.

Following the incident, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran has also taken notice of the incident, instructing the police to expedite their efforts to apprehend the culprits.

“Strict action will be taken against the elements who spoil the reputation of the country,” vowed DIG Kamran.
