ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met United States Vice President JD Vance as Pakistan formally commenced high-stakes negotiations between the United States and Iran, aimed at achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.

The meeting took place as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts following a recently brokered temporary ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. The US delegation was accompanied by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former senior advisor Jared Kushner.

On the Pakistani side, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi were also present during the talks.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed both delegations and appreciated their willingness to engage in constructive dialogue. He expressed hope that the Islamabad talks would serve as a foundation for durable and sustainable peace in the region.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s role as a facilitator, the prime minister said the country remains committed to supporting diplomatic efforts and providing a neutral platform for both sides to resolve their differences through dialogue.

The meeting marks a significant step in Pakistan’s growing diplomatic engagement, as global attention remains focused on Islamabad for progress in easing tensions between the US and Iran.
