ISLAMABAD: Jamiyaat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have agreed to make Mahmood Khan Achakzai the opposition leader in the National Assembly.
JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman hosted a dinner at his residence in honor of the PTI delegation, which included former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar, Shahram Tarakai, and other leaders.
The meeting discussed the political and regional situation.
The PTI delegation requested that Maulana Fazlur Rehman play a role in uniting the opposition in parliament, and both parties agreed to nominate Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the opposition leader.
The PTI leadership consulted Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the proposal to hold a national peace jirga in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which Maulana welcomed.
The PTI delegation also requested JUI to cooperate with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on a vacant Senate seat.
Earlier, the opposition in the National Assembly officially nominated Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the opposition leader.
The application was submitted by the opposition to the office of the Secretary National Assembly Mushtaq, which was presented by Chief Whip Aamir Dogar, Asad Qaiser, and other leaders.
The application has the signatures of 74 opposition members of the assembly, who unanimously expressed confidence in Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
According to sources, three PTI members could not sign the application as they were abroad.
