PHC dismisses JUI-F petition against KP CM election

Peshawar High Court

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has dismissed the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) petition challenging the election of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During the hearing, the court remarked that the petitioner had two options: either to withdraw the petition or let the court announce its decision.

The counsel for JUI-F requested the court to decide the matter on merit, after which the court reserved its verdict on the petition before finally dismissing it.

During the hearing, PTI’s lawyer Salman Akram Raja said in the court that the province is running without a Chief Minister, the orders of the Chief Justice cannot be ignored, unless the orders of the Chief Justice are declared null and void, it will be implemented.

It may be recalled that yesterday, the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court had issued orders to Governor KP Faisal Karim Kundi on PTI’s request to administer the oath of office to the newly elected Chief Minister KP Sohail Afridi.

The court said that if the Governor KP does not take the oath from Sohail Afridi, then the Speaker KP should take the oath of office from him.

Later, Governor KP Faisal Karim Kundi confirmed that he will take the oath of office from the Chief Minister KP at 4 pm today.
