KARACHI: Karachi police have arrested one of its officers for publishing a derogatory post on social media against President Asif Ali Zardari.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Station Investigation Officer (SIO) Abrar Shah, who was stationed at the Ibrahim Haidari police station, under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 (PECA).
As per details, Sukkun Police arrested Shah, and the case has been transferred to the Investigation Officer (IO) for further action.
The officer allegedly shared a controversial Facebook post on April 2, using offensive language against the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, offending the complainant.
As per the FIR lodged by duty officer Yaqoob from the Sukkun police station, he was reading social media comments when he came across Abrar Shah’s post at 8:40 pm, which indirectly targeted a high-ranking official and contained offensive content.
The complainant has provided the police with screenshots of the offensive post. The FIR mentioned Section 504 of PECA, leading to legal action and further investigation.
