KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Divisions, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has imposed a ban on aerial firing, using firecrackers, and carrying/displaying firearms in the metropolis on New Year’s Eve.
The notification issued in this regard stated that on the recommendations of DIG South Zone, Karachi, the Karachi Commission has imposed Section 144 in the port city for two days on the eve of the New Year w.e.f from December 31 to January 1.
The DIG said, “A large number of youngsters from various parts of the city will move to the Seaview area on motorcycles and cars for the celebrations of New Year, which creates traffic jams and inconvenience to the residents of the area.”
“I do hereby impose a complete ban on carrying/ display of arms, aerial firing, and use of firecrackers on New Year’s Eve 2025 within the limits of Karachi Division for a period of two days, with effect from December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025,” the notification issued by Karachi Commissioner read.
The notification further observed that every year on the eve of New Year, some individuals get involved in aerial firing resulting in injury or loss of human lives.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Police issued a statement warning strict action would be taken against aerial firing in the port city as they had finalised a security plan for the protection of the masses.
