Karachi police unveil traffic plan ahead of New Year’s Eve

KARACHI: Karachi Traffic Police on Monday announced a plan to facilitate citizens ahead of New Year’s Eve as several roads leading to Sea View will be closed on the intervening night of December 31 to January 1, 2025.

Security will be on high alert across the city on New Year’s Eve, with Section 144 imposed for two days, with a complete ban on the use of weapons, aerial firing and firecrackers.

Unfortunately, every year on New Year’s Eve, hundreds of people are injured or killed in celebratory firing despite various measures taken by the authorities.

Traffic police asked residents of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) to choose alternative routes to reach their destinations as people will head to entertainment venues including Clifton, Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim and Sea View for New Year’s celebrations.

Residents of the areas with alternative routes will then be able to show their original identity cards to avoid any inconvenience while travelling to their destinations.

Closed roads

  • PIDC Chowk (Ziauddin Road) to Ziauddin Bridge towards Lucky Signal
  • PIDC Chowk to Club Road
  • Bilawal Chowrangi to Bahria Underpass
  • Do Talwar to Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine
  • Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine to 26th Street

Alternative Routes

  • Korangi Road, Sunset Boulevard Road, Gizri Bridge, Saudi Signal towards Khayaban-e-Shamshir, McDonalds towards McDonalds Sea View road will be opened for traffic from Expressway and Korangi.
  • M A Jinnah Road, Garden Road, Zaibun Nisa Street, Awari Light Signal, Sindh Club Chowk, Teen Talwar, Do Talwar towards Zam Zam Boulevard Road, Khayaban-e-Shamshir and McDonalds Sea View would be opened for those travelling to DHA from North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and New Karachi.
  • Sharea Faisal, Sindh Club Chowk, Teen Talwar, Race Course Signal, Chaudhry Khalid-uz-Zaman Road, Gizri Bridge, Saudi Signal towards Khayaban-e-Shamshir, McDonald Sea View road would be opened for traffic from Gadap, Bin Qasim, Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Jamshed Road and Saddar.
  • Jinnah Bridge en route Mai Kolachi to Boat Basin, Bilawal House Chowrangi, Marine Road (Hyperstar) towards McDonalds Sea View will be opened for traffic.
