KARACHI: The Sindh government will inaugurate the first phase of the Malir Expressway for the public on January 11, 2025, that will run from Korangi Causeway to Shah Faisal Interchange.
Addressing the reporters today, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani said that the name of Malir Expressway has been changed to “Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway”.
Furthermore, Ghani told the media that only commercial vehicles, cars, jeeps, and buses will be permitted, while motorcycles and rickshaws won’t be allowed on the expressway.
The decision regarding the inauguration and others were taken during a high-level meeting chaired by CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah at the New Sindh Secretariat.
The segment of the two-way and three-lane 40km-long Malir Expressway stretching from Shah Faisal Interchange to Quaidabad will be open in March this year, Saeed Ghani said.
He further announced that Jam Sadiq Bridge at main Korangi Road will be reconstructed.
Furthermore, the Sindh government has decided a toll plaza would manage the traffic flow, charging Rs100 for cars and jeeps, and Rs200 for heavy vehicles.
The CM Sindh directed law enforcement agencies to deploy district and traffic police at key entry and exit points, including the Jam Sadiq, EBM, and Shah Faisal interchanges.
The traffic police will patrol both sides of the expressway continuously in vehicles. Dedicated traffic police will be present on the expressway to ensure proper traffic flow.
To ensure smooth operations, the CM declared the stretch from the Shah Faisal Interchange to the Shah Faisal Colony Bridge as a no-parking zone.
