KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced plans to construct a high-speed expressway connecting the Karachi Port terminal to Jam Sadiq Bridge. The project, approved by the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Board, will feature a 12.5-kilometer elevated section and a subterranean portion.
The expressway will link with the Malir Expressway at Jam Sadiq Bridge, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time.
In addition, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the local government department to collaborate with the PPP unit to finalize the project.
The government will utilize its resources to build the road under the PPP model. Additionally, the Sindh government has allocated Rs 1.7 billion for the NDD Technology Park, also being developed under the PPP model.
Following the MoU, the agreement for the technology park should be signed within the current month, the Chief Minister said.
The PPP policy board also greenlit a massive reforestation project covering over 100,000 hectares of land in Sindh. The project aims to address the province’s low forest cover.
According to a 2017 WWF report, Pakistan has forests covering six percent of its land, while the minimum forest cover should be 25%,” the Chief Minister said.
Moreover, the Asian Development Bank will assist in reforestation on 88,022 hectares. The project’s first phase will focus on 34,995 hectares in the katcha area of Matiari and Jamshoro districts.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed disappointment over delays in the Marble City project and instructed its swift implementation.
