KARACHI: The world’s most beautiful, 93-year-old Italian naval training ship, Amerigo Vespucci, docked at Karachi Port for a two-day visit during a world tour today (Saturday).
For the first time in Pakistan’s territorial waters, the marvel of Italian seafaring tradition will stay at the Karachi Port from December 7 to 8.
The Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Marilina Armellin, the Italian Consul in Karachi Danilo Giurdanella, and various local government and military officials welcomed Amerigo Vespucci at the Karachi Port.
The oldest maritime wonder, named after the famous Italian navigator, arrived in Pakistan at the 29th port during the world tour before making it to Doha from December 17 to 22.
Launched on July 1, 2023, from Genoa, Italy, the vessel is currently undertaking its second global circumnavigation, which will span two years and visit 36 ports across 32 countries.
The tour is part of an initiative supported by Italy’s Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other governmental bodies. It combines naval training for officer cadets with the promotion of Italy’s cultural, technological, and scientific achievements.
