PESHAWAR: The Anti-Corruption Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has arrested Dr. Tufail, a senior program officer at the Emergency Operation Center for Polio Eradication, for pursuing dual jobs simultaneously.

According to the details, Dr. Tufail was working illegally with the government of KP, while being associated with the polio program of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Dept raided the Emergency Operation Center for Polio Eradication in Peshawar and took Dr. Tufail into custody.

According to the details, the Anti-Corruption Department officials had received information that Dr. Tufail, a health specialist of the UNICEF polio program, was also illegally working as a trainee medical officer in the Department of Community Medicine of Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, and had been receiving financial incentives from both places since January 2023.

On this information, the Anti-Corruption Department investigated and collected evidence and proof, after which a team led by Circle Officer of the Anti-Corruption Department, Humayun Khan, raided the Emergency Operation Center for Polio Eradication located in the former FATA Secretariat and arrested Dr. Tufail.

After the arrest, Dr. Tufail was shifted to an unknown location for questioning.

It has been reported that the case of double employment against Dr. Tufail had come to light for a long time, but he could not be brought to justice due to the support of some senior officials of the polio eradication program and UNICEF.

Despite complaints, the negligence of the senior officials of the polio eradication program on this irregularity has raised questions marks on the transparency of the polio program.

Sources said that the anti-corruption authorities are also investigating the affairs of these officials.
