KP govt announces public holiday on 1st Muharram ul Haram

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has declared 1st of Muharram as a public holiday on the occasion of martyrdom of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA).

This announcement has been made by the provincial government through a notification. A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held today (Thursday) in Karachi for the sighting of the moon of Muharram.

In case the moon was sighted on Thursday then the new year of Islamic calendar will be observed tomorrow. In case the moon was not sighted, then 1st Muharram will be observed on Saturday.
