PESHAWAR: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plans to distribute solar systems through its household solarization program, which aims to boost renewable energy usage and assist families living in poverty.
The meeting in Peshawar, which Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi presided over, resulted in the decision to start distribution after official procedural requirements.
The officials announced during the meeting that the project will extend its services to 130,000 households throughout the province, including merged districts.
The plan will provide free solar systems to 65,000 households, while another 65,000 households will receive systems through a 50 percent subsidy, which they can pay using installment payments.
The meeting confirmed that project PC-1 documentation has reached completion, and it will be submitted for formal approval at the upcoming meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party.
The Accelerated Implementation Program (AIP) is developing a distinct solarization project for the merged districts. The project will deliver solar systems to 120,000 households in merged districts, which will enhance electricity access for isolated communities.
The officials stated that solar unit distribution among districts will depend on each district’s population count. The scheme will assist widows, persons with disabilities, temporarily displaced individuals, disaster-affected families, and communities that lack electricity access.
The authorities expect that the initiative will decrease dependence on traditional power systems while offering affordable clean energy solutions, which will benefit numerous households throughout the province.
