KP to sack employees hired during caretaker govt’s tenure

PESHAWAR: In a recent development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to sack employees hired during the caretaker government’s tenure.

To remove the employees hired during the caretaker government’s tenure, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to draft the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Employees Bill 2025 to formalize the sackings.

This decision will apply to employees hired from January 22, 2023, to February 29, 2024, but not to those hired through the commission, including children and minorities’ quotas.

A seven-member committee, headed by the Secretary Establishment, shall oversee the process and tackle any stumbling block happening in this regard. The committee findings will be made final, while each department will be required to submit reports regarding the recruitments within 30 days.

This decision follows a probe that found 566 fake posts created during the caretaker government’s tenure, which had been inflicting a burden of PKR 480 million a year on the public exchequer.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government decided to sack these employees to fight what would otherwise turn into a serious case of illegal recruitments and ensure that all government jobs are filled in a real and transparent manner. Reports have it that the caretaker government had hired more than 6,000 employees, who were mostly from health and education.

The provincial government has prepared the legal draft for the dismissal of these employees, to be submitted for approval to the provincial assembly. The draft aims to declare the recruitments by the caretaker government illegal and pave the way for the affected employees’ termination.
