LAHORE: Shershah, nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has been handed over to the police on five- day physical remand.
Shershah was arrested yesterday in Lahore in a case linked to the May 9 incidents, the same suit in which his elder brother is also on physical remand.
The investigating officer told the court during Saturday’s hearing that Shershah and his cousin, Hassan Niazi, who is also the nephew of the imprisoned PTI founder, were present at the scene of the Jinnah House attack.
He said that there was video evidence to back up the allegation that the accused was seen encouraging individuals to commit damage and arson.
In the hearing, the prosecution also presented video of the scene. To conduct further investigation, the investigating officer requested a 30-day physical remand of Shershah, stating that the suspect’s photogrammetric and polygraphic tests are necessary.
Senior counsel Salman Akram Raja opposed the remand request while representing Shershah. He said that in situations like these, criminals have been released by the courts 27 months after their arrests.
Raja pleaded with the court to release Shershah from the case and to forego physical remand.
He said that “the entire city will be taken into custody” if this behavior persisted.
Following a hearing of both parties, the ATC announced a five-day physical remand of Shershah.
