LAHORE: The Lahore Traffic Police has taken a significant step towards inclusivity and social welfare by recruiting two transgender individuals, Muskan and Khusboo, as Victim Support Officers.

Their primary role will be to assist in dismantling organized begging networks involving women and transgender individuals in the city.

Muskan and Khusboo will work closely with traffic police teams to identify female beggars and take action against them, while also raising awareness about anti-begging operations and encouraging members of the transgender community to pursue lawful livelihoods.

The Traffic Police has also activated its Lady Traffic Warden Education Wing, which will conduct targeted crackdowns against female beggars.

Those caught during these operations will either be detained and transferred to nearby police stations or rehabilitated at welfare organizations such as Edhi Homes.

The Lahore Chief Traffic Officer emphasized the importance of a balanced approach, stating that the goal is not just to eliminate begging but to provide sustainable solutions for those affected.

This initiative marks a progressive step in addressing the challenges of organized begging in Lahore, combining strict enforcement with a rehabilitative approach to create long-term solutions for vulnerable populations.

By involving transgender officers in this initiative, the Traffic Police aims to foster trust and collaboration within the community while also providing them with meaningful employment opportunities. Rights activists have welcomed this move, calling it a significant step towards the inclusion of transgender individuals in law enforcement.
