LAHORE: Women police officers on bicycles have been deployed in Lahore’s busiest markets to curb street crime as shopping activities increase in the last days of Ramadan.

The police have identified 92 crime hotspots and deployed 1,000 male officers alongside the female officers to strengthen security and ensure a safe environment for shoppers, especially women.

As large crowds gather in shopping malls and commercial areas ahead of Eid, authorities have introduced special security measures to prevent incidents like snatching, harassment and ATM robberies. For the first time, women officers and bicycle squads, including plainclothes officers, have been deployed at key locations to respond promptly to complaints of harassment. Authorities have stressed that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found misbehaving with women.

More than 4,000 officers have been deployed across Lahore to enhance public safety. Dedicated patrol teams, undercover units, and special monitoring squads are keeping a close watch on security threats. Vigilance has been tightened around repeat offenders and criminal elements, especially in 65 high-traffic shopping districts. Undercover officers are deployed discreetly to keep an eye on suspicious activities, while 226 security checkpoints have been set up at sensitive locations.

Security has also been beefed up around banks to prevent robberies and snatching incidents. Mobile police teams are actively patrolling ATMs, markets and bazaars, while modern surveillance technology, including drone cameras and night vision binoculars, is being used for night-time surveillance.

Lahore Operations DIG Faisal Kamran has outlined a comprehensive security plan that includes 6 SPs, 22 sub-divisional officers, 83 SHOs, 473 senior officials, 3367 constables and 34 women officers. Patrols have been stepped up on major routes and shopping hubs by elite forces, dolphin squads and police response units. Authorities have also launched a crackdown on illegal motorcycle stunts, with 55 key locations marked for strict surveillance.
