LAHORE: Punjab Police arrested 28 men and women who participated in a dance party in the Barki area of Lahore, here on Monday.
The SHO of Barki police station said that a team raided after receiving a complaint on Helpline 15 about the dance party. He said that 18 men and 10 women were arrested in the raid, while one accused managed to escape.
He said that a case has been registered against all of them for drinking alcohol and violating the Loudspeaker Act.
The arrested include Asif, Aamir, Shahid, Huzaifa, Omar, Muhammad Ali, Adnan, Zubair, Musalfin, Adil, Hamza, Faraz, Zaheer, Zain, Sahil, Daniyal, Rubin, Saba, Nihal, Ayesha, Rabia, Noor, Sidra, Aksi, and others.
Illegal items including alcohol, flavored shisha and weapons were recovered from the possession of the accused.
In October last year, police in the port city of Karachi raided a private party in Korangi Mehran Town in a swift response to complaints from local residents. The operation came amid allegations that the event featured a couple dancing and the use of drugs.
It was learnt that the party organisers had given permission for a private party with the assurance that there would be no nudity or drug use. However, residents said that the situation was not being followed, prompting the police to intervene.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found no evidence of drugs or alcohol and said no arrests had been made. The party was disbanded without any arrests.
