Lahore weather forecast: PMD issues rain alert from today

LAHORE: The meteorological department has announced that there is a possibility of rain in capital city from today.

A new weather system is likely to enter Pakistan, forecasting rain in several districts of Punjab.

PDMA Director General Irfan Kathia has issued an alert and directed all Deputy Commissioners of the province to keep their machinery and personnel on standby.

The alert warns of possible thunderstorms and strong winds from September 26 to October 1.

According to the announcement, areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, and Lahore may experience heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.

The PDMA DG stressed the need for local administrations across the province to remain alert, directing rescue services including the 1122 helpline to be ready with equipment and personnel.

Irfan Kathia suggested that drainage of water from low-lying areas should be speeded up and advised parents to keep children away from standing water in low-lying areas.
