ATM Cyber Attack in Pakistan

The State Bank of Pakistan and 1Link Limited dismissed rumors of alleged cyberattacks on ATMs. They also advised the public to avoid clicking on suspicious online links and to refrain from sharing personal information.

Earlier, 1LINK Limited came after a message circulated widely on WhatsApp and social media platforms last week that said ATMs would not function for two to three days as ransomware had targeted the machines.

The message contained information on not using any online banking platform for three days, also warning about a video link called ” Dance of the Hillary ” as the video can format your mobile phones.

1Link Limited clarified all false messages and claims by giving an explanation advising the public not to pay any heed to such hoaxes and to consult their banks for any guidance.

The SBP urged users to log out of online banking sessions promptly and to regularly review their account statements.

As of August 21, there have been no significant complaints about ATM malfunctions or online banking issues, and people are encouraged to ignore such false claims.
