LAHORE: The Punjab government is rapidly scaling up its public relief support system by finishing 105 Sahulat Bazaars till June 30, 2026, at an estimated cost of Rs 10 billion.
The project, which has already been approved by the Planning & Development Board, is already 85 percent complete in a short span of seven months.
As confirmed by officials of the Price Control and Commodities Management Department, a total of 48 Sahulat Bazaars remain operational in various divisions of Punjab.
These markets are providing the basic items of food at government-announced prices. This is providing relief to consumers because of the rising inflation.
The project will largely impact nearly 10 million residents as well as provide employment opportunities for 15,000 citizens across the entire province.
As a result of better service delivery and quality controls, the Sahulat Bazaar Authority has also achieved certification in ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 for international standards of quality management and information security.
The main aim of the Punjab Sahulat Bazaars Project is to ensure that safe and adulteration-free products are supplied from wholesale markets to targeted audiences.
Reports have confirmed that zero tolerance for food adulteration is being maintained by the authorities, with daily strengthened efforts to crack down on food adulterators for the protection of public health
