PESHAWAR: An internationally leaked email correspondence has revealed important revelations about the polio campaign in Pakistan, the security situation, and activities in the tribal areas.

The leaked email lists Boris Nikolic as the sender and Jeffrey Epstein as the recipient, while the email is dated May 1, 2013.

According to the text of the email, the writer mentioned security concerns, bomb blasts, and election violence during his stay in Peshawar. The text claimed that hotel security in the city was tight, and the writer met with various officials, including representatives of the tribal areas.

The email also refers to meetings with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Secretary and FATA officials, where ongoing efforts to eradicate polio were discussed.

The email also revealed that there was no funding issue for the polio vaccination campaign and that the FATA government was about to sign a memorandum of understanding with the United Arab Emirates, under which full financial support for the polio campaign could be provided for the next three years.

The text also claims that a local contact spoke to a senior Taliban member over the phone, in which their position on the polio campaign was discussed.

The email, while describing the refusal of polio vaccination on religious grounds as a limiting factor, said that the real issues were pressure tactics, mutual infighting, and interests related to funding and jobs.

The correspondence also mentions further meetings in Islamabad, where detailed discussions were held with government officials.
