LPG prices surge in Peshawar as market rates exceed official cap

PESHAWAR: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices have surged sharply in the city, with consumers paying significantly higher rates than the officially notified price, raising concerns over weak market regulation.

According to reports, LPG is being sold at rates up to Rs100 higher than the official price in various parts of the city. In different localities, prices have climbed to between Rs380 and Rs420 per kilogram, placing an additional burden on households already struggling with inflation.

As per the official price list, the rate of LPG has been fixed at Rs304 per kg. However, this price is largely being ignored in the open market, where retailers continue to sell the commodity at inflated rates without strict enforcement.

Sources indicate that the issue is not limited to Peshawar alone, as discrepancies in LPG prices have been observed across multiple cities in Pakistan. The variation highlights gaps in price monitoring and regulatory implementation.

Consumers have expressed frustration over the unchecked increase, urging authorities to take immediate action against profiteering and ensure uniform implementation of official rates across the country.
