ISLAMABAD: The government has made a major change in the MDCAT exams and reduced the preparation period from six months to one week.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced a major change in the MDCAT schedule to improve the admission system in medical and dental colleges.
Under the new decision, the MDCAT exam will now be held within a week after the FSC exams, with the aim of making the admission process fast, transparent and organized. Officials say that this move will save students from long waits and they will be able to continue their educational activities soon.
Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal termed the decision as a positive development and said that this will maintain the educational continuity of students and they will be able to complete their preparation without a break. According to PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj, this policy will be effective from the 2026 FSC exams.
Officials say that consultations with provincial institutions have been completed and they are ready to conduct the exams under the new schedule.
Last year, more than 140,000 candidates from across the country appeared for the exam, while examination centers were set up in various cities.
