KARACHI: A disturbing incident in Orangi Town has sparked widespread outrage after a viral video showed a citizen being brutally beaten and chained to an electric pole.
The victim, Bilal, was allegedly caught stealing 2,500 rupees from a fruit vendor, Amirullah, who took the law into his own hands.
The swift police action followed, with SP West taking immediate notice and ordering the arrest of those involved. SHO Pirabad Imtiaz Mirjat confirmed Amirullah’s arrest and took Bilal into custody for medical assistance.
During interrogation, Amirullah claimed Bilal had stolen from him two days prior. Bilal, identified as a drug addict, was sent to the hospital for further medical treatment.
The police condemned the vigilantism, emphasizing the importance of the rule of law. Authorities urged citizens to report crimes to the authorities, rather than taking matters into their own hands. The incident highlights concerns about mob justice, drug addiction, and effective law enforcement.
In addition, the investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to ensure justice is served while addressing underlying issues. The community is shaken, and leaders are calling for calm and cooperation with law enforcement.
