ISLAMABAD: A new astronomical forecast has been issued for the start of Ramadan this year in Pakistan.

According to the Meteorological Department, in the light of calculations, it is being shown that the first fast in the country may be on February 19, 2026, as the chances of moon sighting are very bright.

The Meteorological Department says that the birth of the Ramadan moon is expected on February 17 at 5:01 pm.

According to experts, the age of the moon and weather conditions on the next day after birth will be such that they are considered favorable for sighting, therefore the chances of moon sighting increase.

According to the organization’s forecast, there is a strong possibility of moon sighting in different parts of Pakistan on February 18. On this basis, the first Ramadan is expected to be on February 19, however, the final announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Regarding Karachi, the Meteorological Department has said that the age of the moon on February 18 will be about 26 hours. On that day, the sun will set in the city at 6:25 PM while the moon is expected to set at 7:24 PM, which is considered a good time for sighting.

According to astronomical analysis, if the moon is sighted on February 18, then the first day of Ramadan will be on Thursday, February 19. However, the official announcement of the start of the fasting month will be made only after the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting.
