ISLAMABAD: The Senate Subcommittee on Human Rights, under the chairmanship of Senator Ali Zafar, adopted legislation to establish a commission for minority rights on Thursday, emphasizing the significance of this endeavor.

The commission will determine how successfully the government protects minority rights, and will review current regulations and recommend changes to prevent prejudice, according to the bill.

The prime minister will appoint a 13-member panel, with representation from each province. Each province will include a female member and a representative from the largest minority group.

The commission’s goal is to match Pakistan’s practices with United Nations norms for minority rights.

In addition, an 18-member council will assist the commission. It will have members of several faiths, including Hindus, Christians, and Sikhs.

This council will include a variety of members, including government officials. They will collaborate to safeguard and advance minority rights across the country.

Senator Zafar termed the day momentous for Pakistan’s minorities. Human rights organizations have long pushed the government to strengthen minority safeguards.
