MUZAFFARABAD: The AJK government has shut down mobile phone and internet services in the state from today on the call of protest by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) on June 9.

The government has issued orders to shut down mobile phone and internet services in Azad Kashmir from today.

The services will remain closed until June 12. The Azad Kashmir government has also issued an advisory for tourists traveling to Azad Kashmir until June 20.

In view of the protest call, it has been decided to send a force of more than 1,500 officers and personnel of the Islamabad Police to Azad Kashmir.

Spokesperson for the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Shaukat Javed Mir, says that no one can be allowed to take the law into their own hands.

He said that even after 35 out of 38 demands have been accepted, the insistence on the protest is not in the public interest but is political stubbornness.

It should be noted that the Azad Kashmir Joint Action Committee has announced a strike and long march on June 9, along with the talks.

JAAC Banned

On the other hand, the government has banned the JAAC. The organization working under the name of Jammu and Kashmir Action Committee, Joint Public Action Committee, has been included in the First Schedule.

The notification has been issued by the Home Department of the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which has declared the organization banned under the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Terrorism Act 2014, and the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has also approved it.

The notification said that there is reasonable evidence against the organization of harming peace and security; the organization was found to be involved in creating chaos in the state.

According to the notification, the organization is involved in frightening the public and creating a sense of insecurity in society.

The notification has accused the organization of promoting hatred and affecting state peace. Action will be taken against the banned organization as per the law.
