Model anti-rape crisis cell inaugurated at PIMS to enhance survivor support

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Law and Justice, in collaboration with UK Aid, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Legal Aid Society (LAS), unveiled the model Anti-Rape Crisis Cell (ARCC) at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Monday.

This initiative marks a significant stride in implementing the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act, 2021, which mandates the establishment of anti-rape cells across districts. The primary objective is to ensure that survivors of sexual assault have access to a range of services, including the swift registration of first information reports (FIR), evidence collection, and medical examinations within six hours.

The inauguration of the ARCC reflects a commitment to providing survivors with essential support, recognizing the physical, emotional, and social challenges they face. The model crisis cell at PIMS aims to deliver confidential and prompt medico-legal services to empower survivors, offering a pathway to justice and hope.

This collaborative effort underscores the government’s dedication to addressing the issue of sexual violence and enhancing the mechanisms available to survivors. The ARCC at PIMS is poised to play a crucial role in facilitating survivors on their journey toward justice and healing.
