ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that a new spell of monsoon will begin across the country from July 28, which will bring heavy rains, flash floods and urban flooding in many areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, thundershowers are likely in many areas of Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between July 28 and 31. Meanwhile, rain is expected in Balochistan from July 29 to 31 and in Sindh on July 30 and 31.

It is also possible that some areas may receive heavy rains, which may cause flooding in local rivers and canals. There is also a risk of water accumulation in urban low-lying areas.

The department has also issued a landslide warning for northern areas, advising tourists and travelers to carefully review the weather conditions before planning their trips.

Meanwhile, recent floods in Gilgit-Baltistan have caused widespread destruction. Severe floods from the mountains in Dinyur tehsil of Gilgit district diverted the flow of the Hunza River, destroying dozens of houses, uprooting trees and destroying crops on hundreds of acres.

The floods have created a devastating situation in the Thak Babusar area of Chilas, washing away houses, roads, livestock shelters and fields. The affected families are stranded in the open air and helpless.

The Meteorological Department, district administration and relief agencies have appealed to the public to take precautionary measures and be prepared to deal with any possible emergency.
