ISLAMABAD: Several media outlets have reported that the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, which operates under the Interior Ministry, will soon start including the mother’s name in all new Pakistani passports.
Director General Mustafa Jamal Qazi says the revision brings Pakistan in line with international norms and addresses practical issues faced by single mothers and children.
Currently, national identity cards and travel documents list only the father’s name—a practice officials say has created legal and administrative complications.
While current passports will remain valid until they expire, all passports issued going forward will include the names of both parents.
