ISLAMABAD (ABN News) – MQM leader Aamir Moin Pirzada stated that there is no longer any confusion regarding the ongoing sugar crisis in the country, emphasizing that the sugar mafia is extremely powerful and well-organized.
Speaking on ABN News program “Badlo,” he said that while MQM will point out issues and accept its responsibilities, it will bear only as much burden as is possible.
Pirzada criticized top leadership, saying, “When the President and Prime Minister themselves are involved in the sugar business, why should others lag behind? This sends a message to the public that if the rulers can do this, others can too.” He stressed the need to identify who authorized sugar exports and who holds the real responsibility for the crisis.
Revealing price trends, he said that in August, sugar was priced at Rs165 per kilogram, rising further in September and reaching Rs171 per kilogram by November. He questioned, “If mill owners are not making profits, then why is the ex-mill price continuously increasing?”
Aamir Moin Pirzada added that trends and fashions may change, but sugar is not medicine that must be expensive during winter. He assured that MQM will not shy away from its responsibility but emphasized that accountability must be shared and the main culprits exposed as a matter of urgency.
He warned that the sugar crisis has set new records for inflation, and the government’s silence is worsening the situation.
