NAROWAL: After traders in the vegetable market in Narowal set the price at Rs 2 to 5 per kg, a farmer decided to distribute 50 maunds of cabbage for free.
A farmer from a nearby village in Sadiqabad brought about 50 maunds of cabbage to the market but despite going to several traders, he could not get a price higher than Rs 2 to 5 per kg.
Frustrated, the farmer decided to distribute the cabbage for free in the market.
Residents who visited the market filled their bags with the free cabbage. The farmer said that its price per acre is about Rs 40,000 and selling it at Rs 2 per kg does not even cover the cost of bringing the produce to the market. He added that he is struggling to pay his children’s school fees.
