ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved two solar power projects in Sindh with a total capacity of 270 MW.

A 120 MW plant will be set up in Deh Halkani and a 150 MW plant in Deh Mithagar.

Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that these projects will increase the supply of solar energy and help reduce load shedding in Karachi, while also making electricity cheaper.

In addition, the Sindh government is distributing free solar panels to low-income households to reduce the burden of electricity bills. Under this initiative, each household will get a solar system consisting of one panel, fan, three bulbs, battery backup, and a mobile charger.

The program is part of the Sindh Solar Energy Project and will help 200,000 households. It is also linked to small efforts by the provincial government to expand renewable energy and improve access to basic services.
